Getting the best result

Flat, bright, straight on

The single biggest factor is glare. Lay the page flat, keep your shadow off it, and shoot straight down rather than at an angle. A phone photo taken this way reads better than most scans.

One photo per page beats one photo of everything

A single wide shot of four pages spread across a table gives every page a quarter of the resolution. Photograph them one at a time and add them all to the same guide.

Neat handwriting works, rushed handwriting struggles

Handwritten notes are read well when they are reasonably tidy. If your own writing is hurried, a photo of the printed handout it came from will always produce a better guide.

How do I make flashcards from a picture?↓
Tap Upload and take the photo directly in AvaStudy, or choose one from your camera roll. It reads the page and builds the flashcards automatically — you never type a card.
Does it read handwriting?↓
Yes. Reasonably tidy handwritten notes are read well. Very rushed handwriting produces a thinner guide, so if you have the printed original, photograph that instead.
Can I use more than one photo?↓
Yes — add several photos to one upload and the whole packet becomes a single study guide rather than one guide per page.
Why did my photo not work?↓
Almost always glare, angle or distance. Lay the page flat, keep your shadow off it, shoot straight down, and fill the frame with the page. If a guide fails to build, AvaStudy tells you which of those was the problem rather than just apologizing.
